Partnerships - University of Surrey

At the University of Surrey, we support activities for young people in Year 5 to Year 13 . . . in order to support the development of aspirations and attainment, and to provide information, advice and guidance related to higher education

Overview

Moon Hall School are very excited to be continually building on our activities with our new friends at the University of Surrey, taking part in their Widening Participation programme designed to give balanced information to our students about the possibilities post-16 and of post-18 higher education (HE). The 'Surrey Stars' programme is progressive across all year groups:

Events / Activities

Y6 UoS 'Campus Invasion'

Our year 6's were invited to "Campus Invasion" at the University of Surrey to take part in a story writing competition. They were taken for a tour of the campus to help them think about what they may write in connection with the story title "What's invaded the University of Surrey?"

Y9 UoS 'Exploring Higher Education' & Graduation

Our Year 9's worked with the University of Surrey as part of a 3 day Widening Participation (WP) to inform more students from diverse backgrounds about future pathways, and also the possibilities of higher education.

On Wednesday the University of Surrey visited Moon Hall to recap and conclude the two days that the Year 9's spent on campus last week. Pupils completed their design of a university and then attended their own graduation.

STEM BigBangatSchool Day

To help celebrate International Space Week, students engaged in a variety of activities. The UoS came in and delivered an out of this world session on the 'Solar System' to our Juniors.

UoS Year 9 Exploring Higher Education Programme/ Options Evening

All our Year 9s engaged in the 3 day event, the highlight of which (for many) was trying to buy as much as they could using their lunch voucher, in one of the student cafes, and trying not have any change left over:

Day 1 (UoS campus) – a welcome and introduction to university life, campus tour and ‘design, build, reuse’ engineering challenge

Day 2 (UoS campus) society tasters in origami and debating, a taster lesson in Microbiology, and information on support and well-being

Day 3 (Moon Hall) – careers and pathways advice and guidance, and then help with choosing Options. We were then delighted to be able to invite Year 9 parents to share in our Year 9 pupils’ “Graduation” from this three day programme – caps and gowns worn with pride!
