Post GCSEs our students go on to study a broad range of subjects at a broad range of colleges. This reflects the school ethos, where students are encouraged to be individuals and follow their own passions.

All students in Year 9 embark on business Studies GCSE and then it becomes an option for Year 10. Embedded in the teaching is a respect for work and the importance of finding meaningful and enjoyable employment. In the syllabus, different sectors of the economy are analysed and students think critically about types of work.

In Years 10 and 11 there is a dedicated lesson each week in the timetable for research into possible courses at Further Education. Students are encouraged to visit the colleges/schools with their parents, including looking at Special Educational Needs provisions. This is to make sure they get continued learning support after they leave us.

In Year 11, all students experience mock interviews with an external training company. Usually in the November of the school year, students are interviewed using their recently written curriculum vitae.

These interview days have been a regular part of our school calendar for the last few years. The feedback from both students and interviewers is invariably excellent. The students get the opportunity to ‘warm up’ before their real college interviews, learning to talk about themselves in a positive way.

With all the new initiatives in the workplace, including apprenticeships schemes, the students here are given help to work out the destination which would most suit them. To this end, we have a programme called ‘Inspiring Futures’, which involves students answering questions about their interests and skills. They are then given suggestions for suitable careers to explore further.

The progression to Further Education is an important part of life at Moon Hall; it is vital that students are prepared, ready and enthusiastic for the next stage of their lives.
